Departure Time: 04:00 am
Pickup at 04:00 am from your hotels. Our transport will take us to Soraypampa (3,900 masl / 12,795 ft), with a stop in Mollepata for breakfast and to pay a 20 soles entrance fee to the local municipality. We will begin our hike of approximately 4 hours ascending to the highest pass (4,650 masl / 15,255 ft).
We can enjoy the most impressive views of Salkantay (6,272 masl / 20,577 ft). We continue through spectacular mountains and observe Humantay and Huayanay. We will also see small water pools. After a 4-hour descent, we arrive at our first campsite in Chaullay (2,950 masl / 9,678 ft).
After breakfast, we will hike towards La Playa river. On the way we will enjoy pleasant tropical jungle weather and appreciate plantations of coffee, cocoa, coca, bananas and other fruits, including some beautiful orchids. We will make a small stop for lunch at Lluscamayu and continue our hike to the second campsite.
Early in the morning after breakfast, we will take local transport to Santa Teresa, then continue walking to "Hidroelectrica". Here, we will have two options: take the train or walk 3 more hours to reach Machu Picchu town. We spend the night at a hotel.
After breakfast at our hotel, we will take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu. At the entry point we present our original document and Machu Picchu tickets. The guided tour usually takes about 2 hours, during which you can take photos.
To descend, we use the bus to Aguas Calientes and then take our return train to Ollantaytambo, continuing by bus to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
